Unconference:Community Portal
From Unconference
Notes on Community Portal from the 2007-01-06 unconference, attempting to define what needs a community portal might fulfill:
Follow-up: None scheduled.
Mission: Not really discussed/defined
Features/Functions:
- Blogsphere
- Search for information from Bloomington/Monroe county sites
- Assistance guide to local services
- Directory of Bloomington/Monroe sites
- Content/Link aggregator
- Centralized calendar
- Promote interoperability
- Facilitate "transactions" between people
Issues for further discussion:
- Is the portal a separate entity/site or an organized effort to link/publicize/market/improve existing sites?
- Is the portal a volunteer effort or a funded office/organization?
- Does the portal create/maintain it's own content, rely on content from contributors, or simply provide links to content on "member" sites.
- Should there be some type of registration/approval/filter function for people/organizations wanting to include their links or content on the portal?
- Are there existing models than can be used for guidance/ideas?
- What functions does the portal need to fulfill that were/are not met by sites such as HoosierNet and the HT?
